Soft Tissue Management
Soft tissue management is a personalized plan targeting problem areas designed to help you maintain healthy gums.
During your regular checkup, our dental team will thoroughly examine your gums for areas that are infected or inflamed ('periodontal pockets'). This is an important part of your checkup since the presence of these periodontal pockets is a sign of gum disease.
What treatments are included in a soft tissue management program?
Each patient is different, so each soft tissue management program is different! Our dental hygienists will work together with you to develop an effective soft tissue management plan that is personalized to meet your individual needs.
Some of the effective treatments we often recommend include more frequent appointments with our dental hygiene team, root planning and scaling, individualized home care routines, prescription antibiotics, and, in some cases, surgery may be required.
What can I expect if I follow my soft tissue management plan?
The goal of a soft tissue management plan is to control periodontal disease (also known as gum disease).
Ideally the treatment plan will eliminate inflammation and infection in the gums and on root surfaces, resulting in healthy gums, which are no longer tender or inflamed, do not bleed, and have reduced pocket depths. These are all signs of well-controlled periodontal disease.
