IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES AND BRIDGES

An implant-supported denture is a full denture, which replaces all upper or lower teeth.  It is held in place and supported by several fixed implants.

How many implants will be needed to support a full denture?

At least four implants are usually placed for denture stability. The implants secure the denture so that it does not move around but still remains removable.

What is an implant-supported bridge?

An implant-supported bridge is a series of bonded crowns usually made of porcelain bonded to metal or porcelain attached to implants.

The fewest teeth replaced by a bridge are usually three and can be up to a full upper or lower set of teeth.

Why would I choose an implant-supported denture over a regular denture?

With an implant supported denture there is significantly increased stability. Since it is supported by fixed implants, it will not rock, shift, or slide.

What is the difference between an implant supported denture and a bridge?

A denture is made of acrylic and is meant to replace all of the upper and/or lower teeth.

It is removable and has a component that covers part of the roof of your mouth.

A bridge is usually made of porcelain, metal or a combination of the two. It is meant to replace some of your teeth but is not used to replace a ‘full arch’ (all upper or lower teeth).

Bridges are cemented on top of the implants and are not removable.

Why would I choose an implant-supported denture over a bridge or implant?

Dentures are a more cost effective option to replace missing teeth. Also, not everyone is a good candidate for implant-retained bridges.

The health and amount of bone in your jaw is a major determining factor in the decision between an implant retained bridge or a denture.

Our caring team at Park Lawn Dental will be pleased to discuss your options and help you to choose the procedure that is right for you.
