Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, made from titanium. These artificial tooth roots are inserted into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. The implants are then capped with a crown or bridge, resulting in a natural, aesthetically pleasing smile.
What happens during implant restoration?
Restoration is the process of creating an artificial tooth (a crown or bridge) and connecting it to the implant. The crown or bridge can be attached only after the tissue around the implant has completely healed.
Once our experienced team is confident that sufficient healing has occurred to allow us to proceed with restoration of the implant, your first restoration appointment will be scheduled.
During this appointment, we will place an abutment (a small metal post) by inserting it directly into the implant. Your crown or bridge will be attached to the abutment. Once the abutment is in place, we will take an impression of the area, which will be used to construct your custom made crown or bridge. Before this appointment is over, a temporary crown or bridge will be attached to the abutment.
This temporary crown or bridge will remain in place until your custom-fitted crown is ready.
When your custom-made crown or bridge is available, another short appointment is required to place your final crown or bridge onto your abutment and ensure that it fits comfortably into your smile.
What will my new implant look like?
The goal of a crown or bridge is to blend into your natural smile. Since every patient’s smile is different, every crown or bridge is custom-made in our dental lab to be the ideal shade and shape for each patient.
Our team will work with you to select the precise shade and shape of the crown or bridge that will be aesthetically pleasing and functional in your smile.
