Porcelain veneers are extremely thin, custom-made porcelain coverings, which are placed over your existing teeth for aesthetic purposes.

To fix a single damaged or misaligned tooth, one single veneer can be placed. Many veneers can also be used to create a complete smile makeover.

Why are veneers made of porcelain?

Veneers can be made from different materials. However, porcelain is widely accepted as an excellent material for veneers because it is very strong and durable.

Because of its strength and durability, veneers constructed from porcelain are resistant to breakage and can stand the test of time. Additionally, porcelain veneers do not change colour or stain, resulting in a veneer that will remain the ideal shade of white for your smile.

How will the porcelain veneer be applied to my teeth?

Your porcelain veneers will be applied in a two-step process over the course of two appointments.

At the first appointment, we will apply a local anaesthetic to the area, and our experienced team will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of your tooth. Removing the thin layer of enamel will provide space for the veneer to be placed.

Our team will then take an impression of your teeth and create a mould that will be used to construct your custom-fitted veneer.

Before this appointment is complete, we will apply a temporary veneer to your tooth, which will remain in place until your custom-fitted veneer is available to be applied.

At your second appointment, our team will begin by removing your temporary veneer and coat your tooth with a mild acid to etch the surface of your tooth. This will allow the veneer to adhere to your tooth.

Finally, our team will bond your custom-made porcelain veneer to your tooth, resulting in a natural looking, beautifully corrected smile.

Am I a candidate for veneers?

You are a good candidate for veneers if you do not have any untreated cavities or periodontal disease. Additionally, the teeth you intend to apply the veneers to must be in good condition, with sufficient enamel.

Patients who clench or grind their teeth are not usually good candidates for veneers, since clenching or grinding can chip the porcelain.
